Amazing Jeckel Brothers [Limited Edition] ~ Insane Clown Posse

4.0 out of 5 stars am I really writing an ICP review?, January 30, 2006
But seriously, this is a pretty good CD. Insane Clown Posse are generally known amongst casual passerby to be a shock-rap act with no culture and obscene lyrics about killing and womanizing. Well, it's true, isn't it? But that's not BAD, and approached with an open mind this is a very, very entertaining album.

Like any Insane Clown Posse album, Jeckyl Brothers has its fair share of humerous toilet humor songs. On this album most of them are pulled off very well. Some highlights include "I Want My Sh*t" which is an odd, dreamy trip-hop style song with lyrics depicting an immortal man's journey through time (in which he discovers his long tongue allows him to perform cunnilingus especially well)... "B*tches", of course, is the usual comedic revenge violence track. "I Stab People" is one of my favorite humor tracks. And of course "F*** the World" managed to get on the radio with the most f-bombs dropped in a single song.

But what really makes this an album worth special attention is its serious side. One thing about Insane Clown Posse is they always manage to sneak in a few songs that are extremely intelligent and insightful as well as bitter and cynical. The crude and vulgar lyrics that make the other songs so hysterical instead make these serious songs seem that much more honest and potent.

The best example of this is the biting social commentary "Terrible", which I find to be one of ICP's best songs period. Other good serious tunes include "Assassins" and "Echo Side," both unsavory and uncomfortable perspectives on their relative subject matter (not to mention creepy tunes.) The two character tracks, Jake and Jack Jeckyl, being part of the joker's cards concept are also creepy as well as socially applicable. They cool the album off at the end with the meloncholy "Nothing's Left" which is probably one of the least controversial tracks I've heard ICP put out.

The album's weakest points are where it takes itself too seriously where it should be making fart jokes - "Play With Me" and "Mad Scientist" are both decent tunes with good socialogical observations, but they end up coming off as cheesey since the fictional stories being told obscure the good points. ICP are best at being smart when they are pissed off, and these songs are a bit weak because of their lack of ICP's trademark bile. Some other filler tracks as well which aren't really worth a mention.

This is deffinitly one of ICP's best albums, and contains many of their best songs. I wouldn't recommend it to someone expecting "real" rap or hip-hop, and I wouldn't recommend it to someone without a real generous sense of humor. But both the humor and the social commentary can be rewarding to those willing to put aside their pre-judgements based on media hype.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT EVEN FUNNY-BAD......JUST BAD, January 30, 2006
It's tough to know which is worse in this film: the directing, the script or the actors. Betty Hutton (who ever told this woman she could act???) plays all her scenes as if she were on the stage of the Radio City Music Hall: shouting and grimacing. Charlton Heston is slightly better altho he seems to be tortured and constipated. Cornell Wilde simply smirks. The extras and day players are just as awful as the principals. Is it possible to rate a film LESS than one star?

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites, January 29, 2006
I have been wearing this scent for years. I love it!! It is very soft, classy and just a little romantic. I am someone who loves to try the latest and greatest in everything, including fragrance, but I ALWAYS come back to this scent. It is best in cool weather and in the evening, but I wear it all the time!

5.0 out of 5 stars My hair loves this stuff!, January 29, 2006
I LOVe THIS STUFF.

I have very fine, straight, color-treated hair. I have always tried to grow it out nice and long, but have never been able to because of breakage.

After one time of using this product I noticed a difference, my hair was almost not breaking at all. I have now grown out my hair to almost the middle of my back. I have never had it this long in my life.

I do agree about the scent, but to me, its not that bad( my mother loves the smell). I did think it was odd that the shampoo and conditioner don't have even a similar smell, but they are so good to my hair, I don't care. And I have used other oil products in my hair and they have left my hair flat and greasy.

One note though, I don't follow the directions on the treatment. How I do it is, one day a week or so I put it in my hair for most of the day.

Atlantis: A Symphonic Journey ~ David Arkenstone

3.0 out of 5 stars Predictable New-Age Symphonic Excursion, January 27, 2006
My initial response to this album was disappointing in the music I was expecting to hear according to the glowing reviews posted for this album previously. Absent was the rendering of any striking point-counterpoint or development of any counter-balanced (or unbalanced) sub elements within this new-age symphonic blend. Arkenstone has utilized the requisite synthesizer mix along with his symphonic scoring to a attain a level of mere mediocrity. Almost all of the passages take the expected course with a primary melody and predicted harmony that rarely varies off the track. Mildly interesting but without any real wallop, there's no blistering inspirational passages that one might expect from an illusory and fantastical subject such as Atlantis. Predictably and unfortunately only a notch above Muzak. Got a CD for sale that's been played twice!

Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000

Microsoft has jumped straight into the laser mouse fray with the likes of Logitech and Razer. However, Microsoft is hardly new to the game and usually put together decent input devices. Previous laser mice I have reviewed have been primarily gaming specific, and while Microsoft doesn't blatantly tout this particular mouse as being a gamer's best friend, I certainly won't shy away from giving it a good first person shooter thrashing.

Queensryche - Operation Livecrime DVD ~ Queensryche

5.0 out of 5 stars The only concert DVD you'll ever need., January 21, 2006
I'm a big believer that most concert DVDs are wastes of money. Honestly, how many times will anyone watch the same concert, with the same songs, and the same stage show, etc.?

Every rule has its exceptions. For me, `Operation : Livecrime' is that exception.

The extras are nice additions, but this DVD is all about the performance - THE performance. Queensryche were hitting on all cylinders at the time of this recording, and it showed. The album being presented here in its entirety is nothing less than an underappreciated masterpiece, and the stage show underlying this performance, with it's animated characterizations of the album's key players, as well as an on-stage appearance by Pamela Moore (performing as 'Mary') accentuates an amazing story.

If you were fortunate enough to have caught this tour, as I was, this will bring back some incredible memories for you. If you weren't, and are discovering Mindcrime for the first time, then this will only enhance your experience.

I reviewed Operation : Mindcrime for Amazon, and stated that the album belongs in every music lover's collection. While I don't believe that true of this DVD, it is a definite must-have for anyone who loves the Mindcrime album.

Light, thin, and ready for just about anything the business world can throw at it, HP's iPaq rx1950 is a strong performer but falls short with lack of Bluetooth and low memory.

1.0 out of 5 stars Jet Engine TOO Fast, January 17, 2006
This is probably the most disappointing Thomas item we have purchased. This, along with Cranky the Crane, were the two toys our son wanted the most for Christmas. This train WILL NOT stay on any of the two tracks we have - one Thomas Track and one generic. I strongly believe there is a design flaw. My son is so disappointed every time he tries to use it and now just leaves it alone. This is extremely frustrating not only because of his disappointment but also the price tag. I would strongly recommend NOT purchasing this time.
