5.0 out of 5 stars After Effects Bible 5, January 21, 2003
WOW! where do i start? i am, by nature, a multimedia gu-ru. love everything about it! i 1st dipped into adobe premiere and then adobe photoshop. i was eagerly wanting to learn adobe "after effects" which alot say, is the KING of the adobe line up. just due to the fact that its just that, "AFTER EFFECTS." basicly the final touch of a multimedia project. keeping in mind i had NO after effects experiance what so ever. that may be a good guage for the review.

i 1st purchased the "after effects 5.0 classroom in a book." i found that book to be somewhat complicated. that book assumed you (the user) knew too much already. i managed to complete the book BUT still somewhat confused with the software. i found i was clicking, right clicking and didnt realy know why i was doing it?

my next book was "after effects in production" (trish & chris meyer) that book was awesome! but NOT for begginers. the lessons in that book helped BUT being rookie status it was STILL confusing at points.

finally for xmas i received the "after effects 6 bible." FINALLY, 3rd time was a charm! within the 1st 2 chapters i knew i had found a winner! the book NEVER assumes you know too much. it starts right at the BASIC steps. we MUST learn to crawl before we can learn to walk. that is what i feel "classroom in a book" was missing. if your coming in blind folded this book is the way to go! it is written just perfectly for learning this software. the author shares humor throughout the book and at times you feel like your in a classroom.

HIGHLY RECOMEND for anyone in the market for learning A.E.! i can honestly say withought this book i may have NEVER learned A.E. i may have gave up in frustration. it is a complex program, anyone who has ever opened up the interface can atest to that. this book makes the complexity become clear! im now doing things i only thought was possible in hollywood studios.

my recomendation if learning A.E. and in this EXACT order.

1. complete THIS book (after effects 6 bible)
2. your cookin after that book next do (classroom in a book)
3. finally, icing on the cake with (after effects in production)

you will then be well on your way to becoming an A.E master. it takes time. dont give up! THANKS A.E. bible team

5.0 out of 5 stars Blown Away By This 18-Year-Old Phenom's Depth of Talent, January 17, 2003
First time I heard and saw "A Thousand Miles," on MTV, I wondered who the incredible pianist was? When I discovered this was a new artist, previously unknown to me, I kept hoping MTV would play the video again! Fortunately they did! I ordered the CD post-haste and again was blown away by the depth of this artist as an 18 year old! Lyrical depth and quality that made me think that many "popular" artists, came off sounding like rank amateurs after hearing Vanessa Carlton. Piano virtuosity that made me remember Elton John's arrival (Bernie Taupin lyrics) in Los Angeles in 1970 as one of the most promising "new" artist's of that decade. I couldn't believe this young artist was invoking the lyrical complexity of a seasoned recording star and the musical composition's superbly scored for accompanyment with a small orchestra! Besides all the hit singles this CD will produce, there are some fabulously intricate pieces like; "Twilight," and "Paradise," to mention a couple. No matter how many times I hear them, I find another subtle level of voice, music and lyricism that astounds me! Astounding depth and complexity, a star has truly been born. I am buying copies of "Be Not Nobody," and giving them away to my friends. I hope she responds with a solid second effort in order to confirm the genius of her artistry. It remains to be seen if she'll fade away as another one-album wonder?

Not a big book, but one that packs a punch! (pun intended)
The recipe for pork tenderloin is probably the best anywhere. My husband has made it for friends and a Christmas Eve dinner. It got rave reviews. The flan with marinated (in rum) fruit is an amazing dessert. The mojito recipe works like a charm. You can do a complete dinner with this book, or just pick and choose to complement other menus you're planning. What else can I say except mmmmm ...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Gift for any occasion, January 14, 2003
The Vin De La Vie wine glass charms are great, because they are appropriate for any wine lover. I am giving this product 4 stars instead of 5, because they changed the packaging. My first set came in a nice, clear box, so the recipient could see the charms without having to open the package. They now come in a little drawstring pouch, which is nice for storage, but it is just in a clear cellophane pouch with a cardboard header. In order to see what the charms look like, the recipient will have to open the package. Also, to make a nice presentation, you will have to go to a little more trouble to wrap them up. I bought these on sale, and for the price I paid, they were a good value. I would not advise paying full price for these, however.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful, Classy Gift, January 14, 2003
This gift set looks like a million bucks. I was very impressed with it when it arrived, so I showed it to some of my co-workers. They said it looked like it was easily worth more than double what I paid for it. The items are packaged beautifully in a large basket with purple shred and a nice purple/gold fabric ribbon. The wine charms are cute - they are wined themed, and come in their own triangular box. The ceramic wine coaster is adorable and the little cloth napkins come in a nice box, too. The crackers are delicious (I had the same kind in a different gift that someone gave me). The cheese tools are nice, too, and come with an olive fork. If you have a friend who entertains or enjoys wine, you can't miss with this gift. It would be a great birthday or hostess gift. I bought it for my friend's 40th birthday (I'm going to give her a bottle of wine, too) ... I may need to buy another for myself!

4.0 out of 5 stars Content=Fabulous, Format=Tedious, January 10, 2003
The recipes are delicious, and directions are thorough, as other readers have noted. I have owned this book for several years, and have one complaint. No recipe is all on one page or even consecutive pages. Once you find what you want to make, you have to flip back to the pastry part of the recipe. Then you have to find the cooking directions for the pastry. Then you flip back to the item you want to bake. Sometimes, in the course of that recipe, it says to use a particular technique and refers to another page. I made a pecan tart with wonderful results (and many compliments), but had to find information in no fewer than four different parts of the book to accomplish this. This book is only for people who are very good readers who follow directions well and are not easily discouraged.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tool chic!, January 5, 2003
Both my husband and I can spend hours looking at and playing with tools...but this router, this is mine! The engineering is superb, each peice inter changes perfectly with no hooky bits. We do a lot of wood working and have not come across a situation where it did not work well. The only thing that I would like to be different is the shaft lock. You have to keep pressure on the shaft lock button while tightening the bit, which with little hands like mine is a tad difficult.
A great multi purpose addition to any workshop!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good food enthuiast!, January 5, 2003
We bought this as a gift for someone, then aranged a visit on the first use to sample the food! We cooked a turkey on Christmas day in 5" of snow and sub zero wind chill! It took longer to heat up the oil than to cook the bird. Our biggest mistake was the bird was sitting outside and thus got cold while the oil was heating up, so when we put it in it dropped the oil temp about 95 degrees! Thus the skin did not get that crsip high heat cooking and I think that in turn led to the meat getting a little dry. Next time we'll know better!
We all used common sense and guess what we did not burn the house down, or scald anyone! I think we'll be buying one for ourselves soon as we love outdoor cooking.
